So, DreamWorks finally did it. After years of “will they, won’t they,” they’ve dropped the first Shrek 5 teaser, and honestly? The internet’s having a field day with it.
Back to the Swamp
It’s been, what, 15 years since we last saw the grumpy green guy on the big screen? Feels like forever. Myers, Murphy, and Diaz are all back (thank god) – but the real bombshell? Zendaya’s joining the crew as Shrek and Fiona’s teenage daughter. Didn’t see that coming, did you?
Zendaya in the Mix
Look, casting Zendaya is a smart move. She’s got that star power thing going on, and from the few seconds we get of her character, you can tell she’s playing this teen stuck between worlds – not quite fitting in with humans, not totally at home with ogres either. Classic teenage stuff, just with more mud baths and weird ears.
Internet’s Having a Blast (Not Always in a Good Way)
Twitter’s been absolutely roasting some of the animation choices. Can’t really blame them – parts of it look weirdly caught between the original style and whatever they’re trying to do now. One tweet I saw said it looked like “Shrek after discovering Instagram filters” and I haven’t stopped laughing since.
Cash Money Still Flowing
Let’s be real though – people are gonna show up for this. Shrek’s basically a money-printing machine for DreamWorks. The whole “fairy tales but make it sarcastic” thing still works after all these years.
Will it capture that magic from the first couple movies? Who knows. But I’m betting your nostalgic ass will be in line for tickets anyway. Mine too, probably.
