The Nintendo Switch 2 Is Real — Here’s What You Should Know

Share

Okay, it’s finally happening. Nintendo has officially pulled back the curtain on the Switch 2, and yeah… it’s looking like a big step up. Whether you’re someone who plays every day or just occasionally picks up the console, there’s a lot here to be excited about.

That New Screen? Gorgeous.

First thing you’ll probably notice is the screen—it’s bigger and way sharper. It’s now 7.9 inches and runs at 1080p with a 120Hz refresh rate. Translation? Games look cleaner, smoother, and just plain better. Perfect for handheld play on the couch or during commutes.

Joy-Cons Got a Makeover

The Joy-Cons didn’t just get a tweak—they’ve been redesigned to feel nicer in your hands and now attach magnetically. If you’ve ever had connection issues with the old ones, this should be a welcome change. They just snap on and feel solid.

It’s Got Power Where It Counts

Performance-wise, this thing is packing a serious punch. Load times are faster, gameplay is smoother, and the visuals? Way sharper thanks to built-in upscaling tech. It means games don’t have to run natively in 4K to still look fantastic on a big screen.

Talking With Friends Just Got Easier

There’s a new built-in feature called GameChat, which is basically Nintendo’s version of voice and video calls while you’re gaming. You can even screen share. It finally feels like they’re catching up on the social side of gaming—and honestly, it’s about time.

Old Games Still Work — And Look Better

One of the best surprises? The Switch 2 works with your old Switch games. Even better, a bunch of them are getting free upgrades—better graphics, smoother performance. So if you’ve got a backlog of favorites, you’re in luck.

Launch Day Games Look Promising

At launch, there’ll be new titles ready to go—like a fresh “Mario Kart” and a new Donkey Kong game that looks wild. There’s also a darker, multiplayer-focused game called “The Duskbloods” that’s getting a lot of early attention.

Price and Release Date

The release is set for June 5, 2025. It’ll cost $449.99 for the base model, and $499.99 if you want the bundle that includes “Mario Kart World.” Preorders start April 9—so if this is going on your wishlist, now’s the time to prep.
